The Boys’ Brigade’s annual Share-a-Gift initiative (BBSG) depends on the public’s spirit of giving around the Christmas season to donate grocery items and distribute them to needy families in the community. But this year, donations and volunteers have fallen short of the target, as compared to previous’ years. Additionally, the project is aiming to reach out to 42,296 beneficiaries, the highest number in its 30-year history.
On November 28, BBSG posted an update on its Facebook page, appealing for more members of the public to come forward and help. This after they put out an alert that public contributions have been especially slow of late.
BBSG also shared the amount of food accumulated so far in its eighth day of collections — which coincided with the start of Giving Week. Some of the items needed include rice, biscuits, cooking oil, instant noodles, beverages, condiments, and Halal canned food. Alternatively, you can also chip in by purchasing food hampers worth S$20, S$30, and S$50 via NTUC FairPrice, or volunteering to deliver the food hampers.
According to Channel NewsAsia, The Boys’ Brigade kicked off its first wave of deliveries on Saturday, with 860 food hampers packed with 25 grocery essentials delivered on more than 80 vehicles from volunteers to underprivileged families.
Yesterday, after media publications and social media encouraged the public to make a contribution, BBSG said in an update that rice donations rose significantly, alongside a general increase in donations the last couple of days.
So if you’re keen on lending a hand, the BBSG gift boxes will be stationed at selected NTUC FairPrice outlets across the country until Dec 18.
