What does Singapore’s founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and American presidential candidate Donald Trump have in common?
Not a lot, we assure you — Trump is regarded as a vulgar figure, amplifying angry voices and jingoistic sentiments that put him in reckless abandon into the front end of the Republican nomination for president. Lee on the other hand can be regarded as a controversial figure, but at least one who successfully authored a small Southeast Asian country into an economic success story.
Both figures however have been known to make some pretty rabble-rousing statements in their careers — but of course Donald trumps that arena. That’s probably why these folks were caught unaware when they reacted in disgust to Trump’s quotes — when in fact they were Lee Kuan Yew’s. Watch the All Singapore Stuff video below:

To be fair to the iconic Singaporean statesman, Lee was wrongly attributed to have said the statement about shooting Chinese students. Lee was in fact quoting Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping on what the latter said about dealing with the 1989 Tianenmen Square Protests — it was not Lee’s own sentiment, apparently.
Regarding the statement about the integrations of Malay-Muslims in Singapore (made in his book Lee Kuan Yew: Hard Truths to Keep Singapore Going), he said that he “stood corrected” on his verdict, agreeing that his call was out of date.
