A group of Singaporean tourists in Thailand were discharged from hospital last night after being injured when the truck carrying them toppled into a ditch.
The 16 Singaporeans were traveling in the back of a covered truck, called a songthaew, in the central province of Sing Buri province on Friday evening when it lost control and left the road, according to multiple Thai media reports.
The driver of the Mitsubishi had tried to avoid an oncoming car on the narrow road but ended up being blinded by the other vehicle’s high beam lights, causing it to turn and crash.
Five of the Singaporeans were seriously injured, according to Thai PBS. All were taken to Singburi Hospital.
Singapore’s foreign affairs ministry told Singaporean media that all injured passengers had been discharged as of Sunday evening, and that the embassy in Thailand was in contact with them and would facilitate their return to the city-state.
Photos and videos of the incident show the vehicle lying on its left side and one of the injured on a stretcher being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The group was on its way back to their hotel after visiting a church and local market where a Christmas celebration was taking place.
