51-year-old Singaporean Balraj Naidu Ragavan has been sent home from the United States (US) after serving almost four years in prison for intending to supply arms to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), or Tamil Tigers.
It was reported that Naidu had negotiated to buy weapons like grenade launchers and machine guns worth about USD900,000 via a US undercover agent in 2006.
The plan had been to offload the roughly 28 tonnes of weapons and ammunition in international waters off the Sri Lankan coast to be picked up by the Tigers, Z News reports.
One of Naidu’s accomplices, 62-year-old Singaporean Haniffa Osman has already returned to Singapore after completing a 37-month jail term.
