Dog lovers everywhere reacted in disgust and outrage after watching surfaced CCTV footage that showed a man viciously beating up a guard dog last Sunday night.
Internet sleuths have since identified the man behind the savage beating to be a Singaporean national who lives in a rented house in a Puchong estate in Selangor, Malaysia. Fair warning — the video uploaded on the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) Facebook page is pretty horrifying.
For those who can’t stomach animal abuse, the man had been riding on his bicycle with his own pet dog, approaching a guardhouse at the housing estate. The guard dog, however, is seen barking at him and breaking free of its leash, startling the man and causing him to fall off his bike.
What follows is a prolonged distressing scene, in which the man catches the dog and punches it repeatedly — at one point even using a helmet to hit the helpless canine. His own pet dog can be seen frantically running and barking at its owner.
Attempts by the security guard and another man to intervene were thwarted by the dog attacker, who continued to vent his misplaced anger on the dog. He then brought the dog behind the guard post, where he presumably continued to abuse it, even though the camera can’t see what’s happening.
An update by the canine welfare organization showed that the man in subject and the security guard had been brought to a police post to give their statements.
A netizen took it upon herself to conduct an investigation, and claimed that the man behind the attack is a Singaporean divorcee living in Taman Melody, Bandar Kinrara Puchong, who owns a company in Malaysia. The allegations made are so far unverified.
Speaking to The Star, MDDB rescue coordinator Irene Low reported that the dog suffered internal injuries, but is able to “wag its tail and eat”.
