The Singaporean man who allegedly attacked a woman with a hammer and stabbed her at a rented Airbnb home in Brisbane has been arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder. The 20-year-old victim suffered multiple stab wounds to her upper body and a fractured skull.

The incident occurred on Monday night (May 8), after which the 31-year-old male fled the scene on foot. A manhunt was launched by the Australian police, and the suspect — identified as Brian Tan Guan Wen in Australian news reports — was located on Tuesday afternoon in Norman Park, the same suburb where the attack happened.

The duo reportedly met online a few months ago, and saw each other in Australia once before he visited her in Brisbane this time round.

The man was given a mental health assessment and taken to the Brisbane Watch House to be formally charged. He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
