Singaporean involved in snowboarding accident might not survive beyond the week

Tragic news has befallen the family of 25-year-old Singaporean patient at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in the United States.

Doctors shared that prospects of Ms Davina Huang surviving past the week is slim. Huang was involved in a snowboarding accident in the United States on Feb 14 that put her into a condition that doctors say is irreversible and might not survive beyond this week.

Five days after the unfortunate accident, Huang’s friends started an Indiegogo project, looking for the generosity of the public to help provide financial support to Huang and her family. The project, which lasts till 21 March, has raised over S$69,000 as of writing, thanks to the 820 donors so far. Donations range from S$7 to S$270, including Singaporean and international donors.

In an update on the Indiegogo project, Huang’s parents have expressed their gratefulness, but rather believe that the funds should be going towards causes that Huang supported personally.

Huang believed greatly in giving back to society, and was a champion of many social causes. The funds raised online will go towards multiple causes, among them being Save the Children Foundation and a kindergarten in Yunan, China.

Under the Save the Children Foundation, Huang personally supported Hana, a 9-year-old Ethiopian girl she had adopted whom she wrote to regularly as pen pals.

Further information on how the funds will be allocated will be shared in the following weeks; donations will be accepted until March 21. Leftover funds will go towards Wellesley College — where Huang graduated in 2013— or to the charities she supported, in her memory.
