Singaporean housewife turns out to be mastermind of car-smuggling syndicate in Johor

An unassuming Singaporean housewife has just been revealed to be a mastermind behind a syndicate that has been smuggling and selling used luxury cars from her home country.

The Star Online reports that the suspect — in her 20s — had been nabbed at her house in Taman Laguna last week, and is now being detained by Johor Customs Department. Enforcement officers also seized three luxury cars parked inside the compound of her house.

According to State Customs director Datuk Ramli Johari, they’ve been monitoring the case for some time now, and fully believe that the housewife is one of the masterminds of the syndicate.

23 other Singapore-registered vehicles were also seized around the housing estate after investigations were conducted, amounting to RM2.9 million inclusive of RM1.8 million in duties.

“The permits of the Singapore-registered cars are already expired and they should be sent as scraps in the republic,” said Ramli.
