Singaporean filmmaker Royston Tan wins Best Asian Short Film at Sapporo festival

As part of the SG50 celebrations last year, local audiences received a cinematic love letter to Singapore in the form of 7 Letters. The anthology of short films by seven homegrown directors — Royston Tan, Eric Khoo, Kelvin Tong, K Rajagopal, Jack Neo, Tan Pin Pin and Boo Junfeng — was poignant, meaningful and beautifully shot.

More than a year later, Royston Tan’s ‘Bunga Sayang’ has clinched the award for Best Asian Short Film at the 2016 Sapporo International Short Film Festival. Out of the 3,548 titles submitted, 85 were shortlisted, and Tan came up tops as the first Singaporean to get the award at the 11-year-old festival.
