“Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” — this meaningful, if mushy, phrase from Disney’s Lilo & Stitch was quoted by a man looking for his long-lost uncle on Facebook. Determined to reunite with his relative, whom his family hasn’t seen in 42 years, he’s attempting to reestablish contact through the power of social media. You know, six degrees of separation and all (although Facebook has updated it to 3.57 degrees).

According to Facebook user Jovan Wong, his uncle was given to a foster father by the name of Chia Yee Meng after his birth on Jul 20, 1975, in the hopes that he would be in a better financial position to take care of him. It was a sacrifice that Wong’s grandmother made, and Wong said that his grandmother “prays that there will be someone on this platform who could bring home the one person she has loved unconditionally since day one, but never met”.

He ended off his plea with his contact information and an appeal to his uncle, saying “our hearts are ready to receive, ready to welcome you home”.

Other family members and friends also shared his words and put up posts of their own, calling for anyone with information to come forward.
