When a Singapore garbage truck went up in flames this week, injuring one, it chose an aptly named road to do so.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed to Coconuts today that it was alerted to a fire on Burn Road, where fireworks were in play, two days after the impressive gouts of flame were seen on a video doing the rounds.
One person was injured and taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the force said, adding that the cause was still being investigated. It did not state the nature or severity of the injuries sustained.
In a 40-second clip of the trash truck inferno, fireworks could be heard going off in the background. The defense force did not address this, only stating that the fire involved the contents of a refuse collection truck.
Firecrackers are uncommon since they were banned in 1972, two years after Chinese New Year celebrations killed six and injured many others. Possession or use is punishable by up to two years in jail and a S$5,000 fine.
