Singapore tops peak internet speeds in the world, not so much in average internet speeds

Singapore may not have the fastest internet connection speeds in Asia, but hey at least we’ve got the highest average peak connection speed in the world.

In a report released today by content delivery network services firm Akamai Technologies, Singapore retains its top spot as the country with the highest peak connection speed — a blazing 135.4 Mbps. Internet users in Singapore can easily expect peak speeds of more than four times the global average, higher than Hong Kong (101.1Mbps), South Korea (86.6 Mbps) and Japan (78.4 Mbps).

In terms of average connection speed though, Singapore lands only in the number four spot in the Asia-Pacific region, and 17th in the world at 12.5 Mbps. The current world champion in average internet speeds is South Korea at 20.5 Mbps while Sweden comes in a close second at 17.4 Mbps.
