Singapore remains the top city for expats with the highest quality of living in Asia, according to a an annual survey conducted by consultancy firm Mercer.

Their Quality of Living survey evaluates local living conditions in over 440 cities worldwide, analysing elements such as political and social stability, public services, housing, medical considerations, educational standards and more.

The Little Red Dot beat out the likes of Japan, San Francisco, London and even New York to place in the 26th spot in the world in terms of quality of living for expats. The top spot for overall quality of living went to Vienna once again, followed closely by Zurich, Auckland, Munich and Vancouver.

Western European cities are ranked pretty highly in the list, filling up seven places in the top 10. Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva and Copenhagen also made the top tier.

For Asian cities, Singapore takes the lead, while neighbours Kuala Lumpur land at the 86th spot, Bangkok at 129th, Manila at 136th, Jakarta at number 142 and Hong Kong at 70th. In terms of personal safety, Singapore ranks even higher at number 8, followed by the Japanese cities of Kobe, Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, and Yokohama tying for 32nd place.

Cities in New Zealand and Australia obviously are rated highly as well, landing in the top 20 spots. Meanwhile in the United States, Mercer points out that no state-side cities make the top 50 in terms of personal safety.
