A rental car hirer recently got charged hundreds for a scratch on the side of the car door that was actually bird poop.
The anonymous hirer told SgfollowsAll today that a S$286.20 charge was issued by car rental service Tribecar for a scratch on a red car booked on Sunday. But upon inspection, the tiny white mark was allegedly bird poop that could be wiped off.
“Surprised, it is indeed bird shit stain that looks like a scratch. I can’t believe I was charged $300 for bird shit stain on the car,” the hirer wrote.
Tribecar has not immediately responded to Coconuts’ queries requesting comment.
The hirer was “shocked” at the charge that consisted of S$200 reparation fees and S$65 “Downtime Period/Loss Of Use” for one day.
The now-deleted clip also included a screenshot of an email from Tribecar that said the before and after images of the car proved that the “scratch” wasn’t there before the booking.
“[T]he previous hirers before your booking had no damages found in their images upon their end trip. As such, do understand that we have deemed you as the hirer responsible for these damages,” Tribecar wrote.
The hirer said the service is currently investigating.
