In case you weren’t aware, the Singapore Police Force is not an organization that is in need of donations, because we’re already paying for their services with taxes.
But that didn’t stop some unscrupulous folks from pretending to be cops and trying to seek ‘donations’ from the public.
Police (the legit ones) are now looking into reports of people — some of whom claimed to be police officers — “forcibly seeking donations” in public.
“The Singapore Police Force would like to clarify that we do not seek donations.”
The authorities are most likely referring to footage that’s been circulating on social media, in which some young men were allegedly caught soliciting money (with clipboards and all) from secondary school kids. Watch the clip that’s been re-uploaded online by Unscrambled.sg:
According to the original uploader, the older lads seen in the clip were said to have forced the younger kids to cough up $10, and prevented them from leaving until they forked out the money.
Multiple netizens have also started to voice out that similar tactics have been employed across the island — pretending to solicit donations for a cause seems to be all the rage these days.
