Singapore won for Intelligent City Infrastructure at the C40 and Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards last week amongst nine other cities, who were also recognised for different aspects of urban sustainability excellence.

Singapore received the Intelligent City Infrastructure award for its use of advanced technology in operating local transportation systems, particular its GPS-enabled taxis and the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system.

Said the CEO of Siemens Singapore Lothar Herrmann, “Singapore has achieved an outstanding track record for its transportation system. It is one of the least congested major cities in the world. The key to its success is that the Singapore government understood early that efficient and affordable transport is a crucial factor in giving it an edge over other major cities.”
