Dr. Gordon Ku, a physician at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, sold a part of his rare wine collection for an unexpected sum of HKD29.8 million (SGD4.9 million) at a Christie’s Hong Kong auction in August.

Dr. Ku’s “Apothecary” collection, which includes a lot of Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru 2001 Cros-Parantoux that was sold for HKD427,000, was a result of 40 years of strategic selection.

The founder of Singapore’s Kidney Dialysis Foundation and Automated Wearable Artificial Kidney (AWAK) Technologies had begun wine collecting as a hobby after an elder brother introduced him to it in his late teens.
