An underwater military parade for graduands of the Naval Diving Unit (NDU)’s 39th Combat Diver Course was held on Sept. 20 (see photo gallery below).
The unusual parade, which saw the 73 combat divers don their underwater breathing apparatuses and wetsuits, was held in a four-metre deep pool and is a first in Singapore.
Instead of a traditional march-past, the hardy frogmen swam across the pool and stayed fully submerged and at attention on the pool floor during the ceremony, which was an hour-long. Commands were given through a special underwater communication system.
The parade, which was held at Sembawang Camp, was for the graduands to showcase their skills and training from which they have acquired during their gruelling four-month long journey to become naval divers.
