A 40-year-old woman was sentenced to 14 months in jail yesterday for stabbing her teenage daughter.

The unidentified woman, who can’t be named to protect her 15-year-old daughter’s identity, pleaded guilty to stabbing her child in the thigh with a knife over her alleged sexual activities.

According to court documents, the woman was under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened at their home, which was occupied by her daughters – aged 15 and 20 at the time – baby brother and a foreign domestic worker, in June of last year.

According to the timeline presented in court, it was late at night when the woman began scolding the 15-year-old and blatantly asked the older daughter if she should kill her sister.

The 20-year-old did not respond or intervene as she feared that their mother would turn on her.

The mother then took a knife from the kitchen and again asked if she should kill the 15-year-old. She then stabbed her in her right thigh and slashed her arm while the teenager tried to stop her.

The teenager tied a shirt around her thigh to stop the bleeding and the mother told her to clean the bloody mess on the floor. Her daughter ignored her command and retreated to the safety of her sister’s room.

The mother then got upset about the mess and demanded she come out to clean it up, which she did, but left a blood trail behind. The older sister stepped in to help.

All the while, the mother shouted and cursed at the teenager while hitting her with a metal ladle that became bent out of shape upon impact. The mother ignored her cries for her to stop and started mocking her.

The police arrived after receiving noise complaints but left after the mother assured them that there was no dispute.

The older daughter even told the police that everything was fine as she didn’t think the situation was serious enough compared to previous abuses they had experienced.

When the police left, the mother continued the abuse with a floorball stick and a small electric fan that broke.

The bleeding could not be stopped so the mother called the police and the daughter was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery.

The mother had previously admitted to prosecutors that she stabbed her daughter to prevent her from going out so frequently and had told District Judge Eugene Teo in court that it happened after finding out about her alleged sexual conduct with others.
