An international investigator working for the FIFA world soccer federation has revealed that a Singaporean crime syndicate tried to bring a J. League football club into a global match-fixing scam, but failed.
It’s not known if it was an athlete, official or team representative that had been contacted by the boss, but the said investigator had told The Asahi Shimbun the source of information was reliable.
According to the Japan daily, the Japanese Football Association (JFA) and the J. League seem to have little knowledge about the case, nor do they have any reports from the professional teams.
A JFA official however, has said, “I don’t think there will be no contact (from match-fixing organisations)”, implying that such cases are not unusual.
Both JFA and J. League plan to establish an integrity council this year to make sure games in Japan remain clean.
