The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has announced that the match between Singapore and Malaysia scheduled to happen at the new Singapore National Stadium on August 8, has been postponed.

According to FAS General Secretary Winston Lee, more time is required to prepare for the event, which is expected to welcome a high turnout.

“We have informed the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) of our decision and expressed our regrets for any inconveniences caused,” said Lee.

In response, FAM General Secretary Dato Hamidin says Malaysia remains very keen to have the game still, considering the “good relation and long footballing history between the two countries”.

Both sides are working closely to find another suitable date for the match.

Meanwhile, Sport Singapore CEO Lim Teck Yin has expressed his support for the decision, saying that having large crowds at the new National Stadium could raise operational concerns, and that less complex events should kick off the Sports Hub opening to avoid potential problems.
