A recent study conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) shows that the Singapore Tourism Board has indeed been working hard to get travellers to drop by here.
Positioned at 11th place in The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index Ranking 2015, Singapore comes in at a close second in Asia, just behind Japan who’re ranked at number nine. The top position goes to Spain in their first time leading the index, followed closely by France and Germany in second and third place respectively.
In Southeast Asia, Singapore comes out tops in travel and tourism competitiveness, with Malaysia and Thailand trailing behind.
The WEF notes attributes such as Singapore’s excellent business environment and high-quality human resources as extremely conducive to the development of travel and tourism industry, which remains a high national priority. Measures such as strong ground and air transport infrastructure as well as increasing spending on sightseeing, entertainment and gaming puts the country ahead in terms of online searches.
However so, the city-state is noted for not being a very price-competitive destination, ie, life is expensive here. “It should also dedicate more efforts to environmental sustainability, notably high water stress and damage to coastal ecosystems,” the WEF wrote about Singapore.
