Have you seen the latest campaign posters by the Singapore Kindness Movement?
They spotlight the issue of public shaming — y’know, when people armed with cell phones attempt to claim the role of social media justice warrior without first being pro-active or lifting a finger to help. Anyone who dares to step out of line may find their photo circulating online the next day, with complete strangers condemning them for something as simple as cutting a queue, getting into an argument or failing to give up the sacred reserved seat.
Is that really the best move, though? To name and shame instead of, say, actually speaking out and confronting the issue? People sure had plenty of opinions to voice out, especially when it came to this particular poster that went viral on Facebook. It’s a scenario that any train commuter in Singapore is all too familiar with.
