Singapore issues warning over two Malaysian health pills after life-threatening complications

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has issued a warning against two health products from Malaysia after two individuals developed adverse health effects after taking them. One of these users was admitted to an intensive care unit.

The products are Ausbee Australia’s Ausbee Herbal Powder Capsules and Shen Loon She Edoly Capsules. The alarm was sounded today by the HSA.

While the products purport to be used for pain relief, they in fact contain illegal elements, as well as undeclared Western medicinal ingredients.

A woman in her 70s had been taking the Ausbee product for two years for back relief, and what she believed was general wellness. Unbeknownst to her, the product contained significant amounts of dexamethasone, a steroid.

She underwent surgery earlier this year for a fracture and experienced post-surgery complications so severe that she was admitted to an ICU. Here extremely low blood pressure was traced back to the Ausbee product, and the steroids present.

A full screening of the capsules by the HSA found that they also contained undeclared antibiotics, a painkiller, and an anti-allergy drug — all of which can cause dangerous reactions in users, as well as when mixed with other drugs.

She has since been discharged from the hospital.

Another man in his 60s taking Shen Loon She Edoly for nearly a decade developed Cushing’s syndrome. Initially taking the capsules to relieve joint pain, the large amounts of steroids in the pills and their long-term use caused him to develop large bruises on his skin, high blood pressure, and an increased blood sugar level.

He is currently receiving medical attention for the effects of the pills.

The HSA has requested all retailers halt the selling of the pills, and has told the public that if you have taken either, stop immediately, and consult a doctor.

Also, don’t take pills that promise quick fixes! Or miracles! Even if your auntie swears by them! You know, the usual.
