A couple going through Singapore customs was traumatized by inappropriate questions from an immigration officer who allegedly insinuated that the wife was a paid prostitute.

An Eyden Lee posted a complaint online last night about an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, or ICA, officer who allegedly asked if his Chinese National wife was someone he “paid to have a fun time with” during a customs check at a Singapore checkpoint.

“My wife and I were in utter disbelief,” he wrote. “We are so upset with what had happened and my wife has since been unable to sleep well without feeling terrible.”

The incident happened when the couple was driving back from Malaysia on Monday at 8:20pm. It is not revealed whether it was at the Tuas or Woodlands checkpoint.

According to Lee, the officer first asked if Lee had gone to their office before to which Lee denied. Then, the officer asked if his wife, who was seated next to him, was someone he paid to “have a fun time with” before reiterating and asking if she was his “social escort to do something in and out of Malaysia,” adding that he should know what he meant.

Puzzled, Lee asked the officer if he was being serious and the latter replied that he was just following standard protocol questions and that it was “just a basic profiling question.”

The wife then got “very upset” and “started to cry.” Lee said he got escorted to the office while his car was searched.

ICA has not immediately responded to Coconuts’ queries requesting comment.
