One of the judges of a Singaporean reality television singing competition that ended more than a decade ago has resurfaced and is now charged with sexual assault.
Ken Lim Chih Chiang, known for being the stern and curt Simon Cowell-like judge among the panel of Singapore Idol, was charged today with molestation of a 25-year-old woman in November of 2021.
The 58-year-old, who runs record label Hype Records, is being accused of touching the woman’s breast in his office on Henderson Road.
Lim was offered bail of S$10,000.
Singapore Idol ran for three seasons in 2004, 2006 and 2009. Its winners are Taufik Batisah, Hady Mirza and Sezairi Sezali for seasons 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
Lim was a judge for all three seasons alongside Dick Lee, Florence Lian, Douglas Oliverio (Season 1) and Jacintha Abisheganaden (Season 2).
Years later, he went on to create another local reality singing competition The Final 1 where he was also a judge and signed winners Farisha Ishak and Jermaine Leong under his label. It ran for two seasons in 2013 and 2015.
If found guilty, he faces up to two years in jail, a fine and caning.
