A Singapore Ministry of Manpower housing officer sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl after following her into her home.
Loh Jin, 57, was sentenced today to one year and five months in jail after pleading guilty to one count of using criminal force to outrage the victim’s modesty. Another charge was taken into consideration.
According to the court, the incident happened on Oct. 19 2020 when the girl was on a bus home from Bishan with her 8-year-old younger brother and alighted near her school. They then played at a nearby playground.
Loh had also taken the same bus and alighted at the same bus stop. He then walked over and took a photo of them.
When they were done playing at the playground, they headed back home while Loh followed behind all the way up to their flat. Upon finding out that the children’s parents were not home, Loh entered the flat.
The girl told him that her parents instructed her not to let strangers into their house.
Loh then showed her the photo he had taken before reaching out to touch her.
Loh fled the house and took a cab home when the distressed girl cried.
She called the police later that day saying: “He refused to go away. He went inside the house and he touch my … area. He is old, wearing white shirt, grey shorts, with spectacles. Not sure how old is he.”
For molesting a child below 14 years old, Loh can be jailed for up to five years and fined. He is exempted from caning as he is above 50 years old, a law that President Halimah is fighting to amend.
