Singapore holds highest interest in Googling “vegetarian”… as well as “KFC”, “McDonalds” and “Popeyes”

Singapore holds the highest number for search terms like “vegetarian”… as well as “KFC”, “McDonalds” and “Popeyes”.

It may be difficult to go vegan in meat-loving Singapore, but vegetarians, on the other hand, have it pretty good. Vegetarian options are pretty easy to find — with greasy mock meat being a favourite among locals for some reason — but proper eateries dedicated to their cuisine might be a wee bit harder to find beyond the confines of Fortune Centre.

With the aid of high-speed internet, the increasing desire to stay healthy and the love of food, perhaps that’s why Singapore holds the highest amount of interest in searching the term “vegetarian” on Google. Even higher than any other cities with bigger health-nut communities like Australia, New Zealand, UK or Canada.

Here’s the funny thing though. Singapore also holds the highest amount of interest in searching for fast food brands on Google. Even nations like the United States don’t stand a chance in our fascination for McDonald’s, KFC and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

This conflict of virtues — healthy vegetarian eats and unhealthy fast food — may very well be a possible reason why Mickey D’s recently launched their Veggie Crunch Burger. No hype for that entrée (unlike the ill-advised Salted Egg Yolk Burger), but at least vegetarians won’t need to wring their hands when it comes to ordering stuff from McDonald’s.

As for vegans, tough luck to be in Singapore. Soz.
