The world-renowned corporation behind cinematic sound and top-notch motion picture audio for Return of the Jedi has just been bought by Razer, the gaming peripheral company founded and headed by Singaporean Min-Liang Tan.
It’s quite a surprising revelation across the tech world, clearly. THX has been an iconic brand attached to its founder George Lucas, who formed the company in 1983 to ensure the best possible audio quality standards in movie theatres. Named after his first film, THX 1138, the company develops high-fidelity audio/visual standards for home theatres, computer speakers, video games and other acoustic systems. You’ve probably heard its rumbling audio trademark ‘Deep Note’ a million times.

With the acquisition by Razer, Tan expressed his intention in solidifying his brand as an “entertainment powerhouse across music, movies and games”, according to The Verge. Without sacrificing any THX management or staff, and allowing them to run their own operations independently, what Razer wants to do is to help push the audio brand into Chinese movie theatres.
Prior to Razer, THX also shared another Singaporean connection when it was under local multimedia manufacturers Creative Technology Ltd. Now under Razer, the laptops, speakers and other gaming devices may get a hefty boost in audio quality. This news pleases the THX Lemur.
