One of Lee Kuan Yew’s biggest dreams is that Singapore maintains a safe country.

In that respect, the former Minister Mentor and the nation’s founding father has much to be proud of today.

Singapore has lived up to its reputation of being a country safe enough for people to walk in at night without fear of theft and violence and it continues to, as the latest statistics suggest.

The crime rate here — calculated as the number of cases per 100,000 people — has fallen to 581, the lowest it’s been in 29 years.

The number of crimes in Singapore has been falling consistently since 1992 when the rate was at a high of 1,373.
