The Seminar on Doing Business in Vietnam held on Tuesday at the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) attracted some 80 businessmen keen on the opportunities available there.
The attendees — comprising of entrepeneurs and investors — were there to learn the nitty-gritty know-how of conducting business with and within our ASEAN neighbour, including the Singapore Government’s scheme to help businesses keen on investing overseas, as well as the business law and taxation policy in the country.
One of the participants, Dr. Ahmad Magad, group managing director of II-VI Singapore Private Limited, told the Vietnam News Agency that factors such as the country’s improved legal framework and a vast market, together with the ASEAN economic framework coming into place in 2015 make the country attractive to potential investors.
Singapore is currently the second largest investor in Vietnam and its third largest trading partner in ASEAN in 2013, having contributed a total of USD29.3 billion.
