A 12-year-old boy who stole a bus and took it for a joyride around East Singapore is under police investigation.
The police yesterday said they were alerted to a private bus being stolen along Tampines Avenue 10 on Wednesday around noon.
No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing.
According to several Instagram posts, the boy drove over 100 kilometers for five hours and used a quarter tank of diesel. It then crashed and was left abandoned in a bus bay before police arrived.
He was also alleged to have tried to steal another bus the night before but was unsuccessful.
A photo showed him smiling when he was surrounded by police officers and screenshots of dashcam footage showed him steering the wheel while sitting in the driver’s seat.
Private bus operator A&S Transit yesterday said in a statement that while it is “unfortunate” that the incident happened, they urged the public to not flame him as he clearly showed “passion” for buses and that we should forgive and support him with the right outlets.
“We would like to take this opportunity to call on the public, government and organisations not to dismiss our youths, but to see this incident as a call to hear the growing enthusiasm among the younger generation and to support them with more outlets and opportunities to pursue their interests,” it wrote.
