Singapore electronic music artiste Jasmine Sokko has made it into the finals of Chinese electronic music competition Rave Now which airs on Tencent Video, according to press releases on Sunday by her management Aging Youth and Warner Music Singapore.
She is the only foreign and female contestant to have made it to the finals of the show.
She stunned folks in the ninth episode of the show which aired Saturday night, by performing a remake of the song Don’t Let Me Go by her mentor Lay.
That performance was enough to secure her place in the finals, after winning votes from an 80-strong panel including industry experts, media professionals, and selected audience members.
She joins five other finalists, one of whom will be brought back by an online popularity vote after being eliminated.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, she said she was “mad grateful (at) making it to the finals”.
“I joined Rave Now because I pretty much am curious about China so I wanted to learn,” she said. “I never once thought I could make it to the finals because my music isn’t the “1, 2, 3, put your hands up” kind, and my command of Chinese isn’t the best.”
Despite her limitations, she continued to stun judges with her vocals and performances, as she turned her hits such as 1057 into bilingual tunes with the addition of Chinese lyrics.
Over 70 teams of electronic music producers from China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and more participated in the first season of the show, which is mentored by celebrity judges including Lay from K-Pop group EXO and Norwegian sensation Alan Walker.
You can vote for her in the finals, which will be streamed live on February 1, 8pm on Tencent Video.
