Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been deemed one of the safest carriers in the world for 2018, according to a report by aviation analysis website AirlineRatings.com.

Out of the 409 airlines it monitors, the site ranked its top 20, including in alphabetical order: Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, Swiss, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia.

As for SIA, the national carrier also had the honor of being in the top 20 in 2016 and 2017.

AirlineRatings.com editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas said that these 20 carriers were considered standouts in the industry at the forefront of safety, innovation, and launching of new aircraft.

The top 10 safest low-cost airlines were also identified, including in alphabetical order: Aer Lingus, Flybe, Frontier, HK Express, Jetblue, Jetstar Australia, Thomas Cook, Virgin America, Vueling, and Westjet.

The safety rankings take into account factors such as audits from aviation’s governing bodies and lead associations, government audits, the airline’s crash and serious incident record, and the fleet age.

On the other end of the spectrum, the lowest ranked airlines (with one star) are Air Koryo, Bluewing Airlines, Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines, Tara Air, Trigana Air Service, and Yeti Airlines.
