On Monday, one unhappy Singapore Airlines (SIA) passenger had the unpleasant experience of having his luggage tampered with during his flight from Bali to Singapore.

Katei Chang — a 34-year-old Japan-born violinist, according to The Straits Times — took to Facebook in a now-viral post to talk about the incident.

Apparently, when he picked up his suitcase from the luggage carousel at Changi Airport, he noticed the lock had been ripped off and his bag was broken into “with a lot of force”.

Shocked, he opened it but found that nothing was taken, although his items (like CDs and sheet music) had been tampered with. Chang immediately reported the incident to security, and realized three other people from flight SQ939 had the same thing happen to them.

“The real scary thought isn’t your belongings being stolen,” he said. “It’s the drugs/bombs that may be planted in your luggage without you knowing.”

“Don’t they do background checks on people working at the airport?”, he exclaimed. “I flew 78 flights last year and never came across anything disgusting like this.”

ST noted that Chang will be claiming compensation when he returns to his home in Australia. He has since made a report with SIA, and Angkasa Pura Airports, which operates Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, is reviewing CCTV footage to investigate. But it’s still unclear where exactly the luggage was broken into.

SIA told Channel NewsAsia that it’s reaching out to Chang to offer assistance.

Chang ended off his post telling people to be “extra careful when traveling”, and to always check their bags after getting them from the luggage belt.
