Singapore’s national carrier – the country’s pride and joy – has clinched second spot in the annual passenger survey of the world’s top 100 airlines by Skytrax. Moving up one notch from last year’s ranking, Singapore Airlines (SIA) came in as runner-up behind Qatar Airways, which took top spot this year after rising from second place last year.

SIA was also awarded a bunch of other accolades in the 2017 World Airline Awards, such as Best Airline in Asia, Best Premium Economy Onboard Catering and World’s Best Business Class seat.

As for category rankings, the airline came in third for World’s Best Inflight Entertainment and World’s Best Business Class, fourth for World’s Best Premium Economy Class, fifth for World’s Best First Class, World’s Best Economy Class, and World’s Best Cabin Staff, as well as ninth for World’s Best Airlines Cabin Cleanliness.

Elsewhere, SIA subsidiary SilkAir placed eighth for World’s Best Regional Airline, and Malaysia’s budget carrier AirAsia retained its position as the best low-cost airline in Asia and the world.

Besides Qatar Airways and SIA at first and second place, rounding up the top ten list are ANA All Nippon Airways, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Lufthansa, Etihad Airways, Hainan Airlines and Garuda Indonesia.

The awards surveys customer satisfaction of airline services and performances across the globe, polling over 19 million airline passengers from 105 countries between August 2016 and May 2017.
