Singapore is 9th most expensive city in the world for hotel dining

There’s a reason why there are hawker centres and food courts practically in every Singapore block — as beacons for smart tourists who refuse to be ripped off by overcharging hotels.

A recent study by Hotels.com called Club Sandwich Index places the Little Red Dot as the ninth most expensive city for hotel dining. The survey compared the prices of five items — burger, coffee, red wine, and club sandwich — and this is how much they cost here on average:

– Burger: $23.49
– Cup of coffee: $6.06
– Glass of house red wine: $13.97
– Club Sandwich: $17.02

And we’re not even talking about local delights like a basic Hainanese chicken rice, which can cost at least $25 at Marina Bay Sands, for example.

The most expensive city in the world for hotel dining is still Geneva, Switzerland. For Asia, it’s Hong Kong which placed number three in the survey. Around there, a club sandwich sets you back $21.09.
