A Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A330 veered off the runway when it was landing at the Yangon International Airport in Myanmar on May 21.

Channel NewsAsia reports that SQ998 had been schedule to land at 9:20am, during which it experienced heavy rain and went slightly off the runway.

The aircraft was later towed to the gate so passengers could disembark safely and a replacement was issued to operate the return flight.

No injuries were reported, but according to Xinhua news agency, the airport was closed for half an hour due to the incident.

Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin, who had been on SQ998, described it as “the hardest landing” he’d ever experienced. He also urged fellow passengers to “follow instructions and be properly strapped in”, and commended SIA crew on their professionalism.
