Singapore Airlines (SIA) has filed an application with the United States (U.S.) Department of Transportation to enter into a bilateral codeshare agreement with JetBlue Airways.
When approved, the partnership will allow for seamless connections between the two airlines, combining flights on both carriers and easily facilitating one-stop ticketing and baggage check-in.
SIA passengers will have access to 16 destinations in the U.S., while JetBlue customers will have access to five new cities in Europe and Asia.
Under the proposed agreement, Singapore Airlines would add its ‘SQ’ designator code on JetBlue-operated flights beyond its U.S. gateway at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to 16 key destinations including Austin (Texas), Boston (Massachusetts), Buffalo (New York), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (Florida), New Orleans (Louisiana) and Portland (Maine).
In turn, JetBlue would put its ‘B6’ designator code on five daily Singapore Airlines flights to/from the U.S., including Los Angeles – Tokyo – Singapore, New York – Frankfurt – Singapore, and San Francisco – Hong Kong – Singapore.
