Shuqun Secondary School finally takes disciplinary action against bully of viral video

A video clip posted on social media placed Shuqun Secondary School in 15 minutes of infamy as the nation cried out in rage over a blatant case of bullying among its students.

You know which video — it’s the one with the burly kid hitting his two smaller classmates on the head, in tempo to a crappy EDM song playing out loud on the speakers.

Now with the Ministry of Education breathing hard down their necks, the ones in charge have been scrambling to make things right. Shuqun Secondary School principal made a statement yesterday, assuring all that disciplinary action has been taken against the students who behaved inappropriately, The Straits Times reports.

The bully and the other rowdy students in subject have been counselled and advised to simply “make amends” while the non-interfering classmates have been advised to “step up to stop aggressive behaviour”.

That’s all fine and dandy, but it’s pretty concerning that the school and the Ministry of Education is only taking action only after footage of the incident went viral. There’s probably a lot more bullies and even more victims of bullying still going undetected in schools, and absolutely nothing’s being done about it.

In any case, a police report has been lodged about the alleged case of bullying, which will hopefully lead to something more concrete than simple guidance counselling.
