Aww yiss, now the fun begins. As soon as all the candidates were confirmed yesterday, the political nominees wasted no time in firing salvo after salvo of comments to discredit their opponents.
Classy? Probably not. Fun to watch? Definitely. Check out some of the sick burns that were dished out so far. For future reference, here’s the link to the Burns Centre at Singapore General Hospital — they say it’s the only specialised facility managing major burn injuries in Southeast Asia.
Lawrence Wong (PAP) vs Chee Soon Juan (SDP)
#GE2015 #YourVoteMatters forum: People’s Action Party’s Lawrence Wong and the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP)’s Chee Soon Juan cross swords over Dr Chee’s past. http://bit.ly/1KCu2lU

Channel NewsAsia held a live political forum yesterday night, hosting various candidates in the studio to discuss and answer questions submitted by the public. People’s Action Party’s Lawrence Wong (fighting for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC) straight up went for the low-blow — specifically targeting the gonads of Singapore Democratic Party’s Dr Chee Soon Juan (fighting for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC).
While highlighting the importance of character in aspiring Members of Parliament, Wong suddenly goes on the assault, attacking Dr Chee for a controversial incident back in 1996 when he was charged for lying and misleading the public. The two then started to subvert the discussion into an argument that only ended when host Steven Chia stepped in.
Burn Level: Meh
Dick move for sure — it’s not cool to twist a discussion into something that happened 20 years ago, which by now people have forgotten and moved on already. Stop trying to make the past happen, Lawrence “fishy burn” Wong.
Vivian Balakrishnan (PAP) vs SDP

The Holland-Bukit Timah GRC incumbents will face quite a challenge going up against their opposing team SDP, which is led by party chief Dr Chee himself. As such, Dr Balakrishnan fired the first shot against SDP’s policies, that he said would send the country “on the road to Greece”, The Straits Times reports. Dayum.
Dr Balakrishnan elaborates that SDP’s copied policies — including the establishment of minimum wage, raising personal income taxes for the wealthy, increasing social spending — have already failed elsewhere. “…it is the duty of my team to awaken Singaporeans to the dangers of such policy prescriptions,” he says.
Burn Level: Ouch
Associating SDP’s policies with the economic wasteland that is Greece is no laughing matter, and no doubt voters will take the seriously because who wants to live in never-ending state of crisis. Standard fear-mongering, very Lee Kuan Yew-esque (re: Aljunied having five years to ‘repent’).
Lee Hsien Loong (PAP) vs All opposition parties

The Prime Minister refused to mince his words and straight-up said that opposition Members of Parliament have so far been downright disappointing in performance, essentially calling them all bark but no bite.
He stated that it’s very easy for them to make fierce, rousing speeches during election rallies, but as soon as they arrived in Parliament, none of the issues they harped on were raised.
“You voted for a tiger in a Chamber and you got a mouse in the House,” he stated before he presumably dropped the mic.
Burn Level: Infernal
He just summarised all the doubts about opposition parties into one very quotable quote that will probably be remembered for years on. Brava.
