The Land Transport Authority (LTA) may have started to double down on impounding bicycles from bike-sharing firms for obstructing footpaths, but truly, the issue will never be solved until society here learns to be more gracious (hah, good luck with that).

Case in point: this sheltered path near Pioneer MRT Station that was pictured littered with ofo and Mobike two-wheelers, causing an obscene obstruction for pedestrians. What’s more, the individual who snapped the picture informed STOMP that the ugly scene is a common sight at the location. For shame, people — imagine the terrible inconvenience of navigating through the landscape of metal and rubber during rainy days.

Zhivko Girginov to the rescue

Everyone’s favorite Bulgarian hero Zhivko Girginov — the man who took it upon himself to scour Singapore to retrieve discarded, damaged, or improperly parked bikes — took notice of the post. Like the champ he is, he’s planning to clear the mess near the MRT station this very evening, along with fellow good samaritans in his Volunteer Bike Patrol initiative.

Even after being told that his efforts may only see a cleaner walkway for only a short period of time before bike-sharing users start making a mess again, Girginov remains undeterred.

Those who’d like to join in the endeavor can meet up with Girginov and his crew at Pioneer MRT Station’s Exit A at 5pm today.
