Severely hacked body of Singaporean man found off Kedah Highway

A body of a Singaporean man was uncovered near a Malaysian highway on Sunday morning, sporting 13 deep slash wounds — deep enough that his head was almost hacked in half.

Malaysian police found the body at 9.30am in a bushy area off the North-South Expressway in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, close to the border into Thailand. Authorities speaking to the New Straits Times believe that the man died between six to 12 hours before he was found, with the cause of death being multiple knife wounds.

Though no personal documents were found on his body, police identified the man as a Singaporean Chinese by looking through his phone’s contents. The police believe that he had been staying in the southern Thailand city of Hat Yai for many years.

The victim’s family have since been contacted and they identified the body yesterday. Investigations are ongoing.
