Serial taxi driver cheater arrested; over 30 drivers duped in scheme

Police have arrested the 42-year-old man, who’s spree of cheating cases involving gracious taxi drivers got righteously shut down

More than 30 kind-hearted taxi drivers got their money absconded by the unscrupulous man, who convinced them to loan him money to get some food. His ruse would involve flagging taxis and directing them to stop over at a food centre before proceeding to another intended destination.

He would then claim that he did not have enough money to pay for his food, and request to borrow money — ranging between $30 to $50 from the drivers. As soon as he got the cash in hand, he would head over to the food centre and disappear, leaving the stumped drivers without even paying for the taxi fare. Such cruelty.

Through extensive investigations, officers from the Bedok Division established his identity and nabbed him at Block 180C along Marsiling Road on Oct 7.

If convicted for the offence of cheating, he’ll face imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.
