Sengkang loop of LRT gets two-car trains now; Punggol loop to have it by next year

Residents of Sengkang will have their regular morning squeeze sessions on the LRT significantly reduced now that the line is operating with two-car trains.

The amount of people per ride is now up to 204 passengers, with each carriage able to accommodate 102 pax on board.

“The new upgrade will bring about greater comfort and convenience for the residents,” said Senior Minister of State for Transport Ng Chee Meng, as quoted by The Straits Times

“By doubling the capacity of the trains to 204, the waiting times during the rush hour will be significantly reduced.”

If Punggol residents feel left out by the LRT upgrade that’s only available in the Sengkang loop, the Land Transport Authority assures that similar improvements will be made on the Punggol loop by early 2017.
