A security guard who slapped a member of the public at Clarke Quay has since been fired by his employer, Certis Cisco. A short clip of the incident, which made its rounds on social media yesterday, showed the angry altercation at what appeared to be the entrance of The Central mall.
Starting off with furious gestures, the confrontation soon escalated when the security guard slapped the taller man in a red polo t-shirt before leaving the scene. Stunned by the aggression, the man fumbled with the door before stomping off into the mall.
It is believed that the man in red was sitting on the stairs when the guard approached him to refrain from doing so. That was when the disagreement started.
According to Yahoo News Singapore, a Certis Cisco spokesperson said that the incident occurred on Saturday, and the company has since issued an apology to the victim.
The Straits Times confirmed that the police were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt at 6 Eu Tong Sen Street at 7:20pm on Saturday, and they’re currently looking into the matter.
The security guard was fired on Monday, and the termination took effect on Tuesday.
Certis Cisco said it also “shared the incident with the rest of our security staff and reiterated the importance of conducting themselves professionally when interacting with members of the public”.
A spokesperson for CBRE, the managing agent for the mall, explained that it conducted “a thorough investigation with all parties concerned” after the incident.
“This is the first time an incident of such a nature has been lodged and we will work closely with Certis Cisco to ensure that the security personnel deployed at the mall carry out their duties with the highest level of professionalism,” she added.
