Team Singapore’s Amanda Lim made a splash in the SEA Games pool last Saturday (Aug 26) when she came up tops — with her fifth consecutive gold medal at the competition — in the 50m freestyle.
But in her hurry to thank her family members and toss them the Games mascot toy she was given, Lim missed out on a little girl who cheered her on at Bukit Jalil’s National Aquatic Centre. The young fan even ran down the rows of seats at the stands to wave to the 24-year-old swimmer after the victory ceremony, but Lim said she was riding high on the win and did not see anyone else other than her family in the crowd.
So she put up a post on social media on Monday night (Aug 28), asking for netizens’ help to identify the girl so she could send her a Rimau toy “as a gesture of appreciation and apology for not seeing her that night”.
Luckily, the internet came through pretty quickly — Lim posted an update on Tuesday morning (Aug 29) saying that she had been connected with the little girl and vowing to come through on her promise to gift the girl with a toy in a show of appreciation for her support.
