S.E.A. Aquarium sets 2 new Singapore records for largest bottle cap mural and photo wall

Props to S.E.A. Aquarium for setting two new records — one for the largest bottle cap mural, and the other for the largest photo pledge wall. But before you get too excited, these actually come from the Singapore Book of Records, not the Guinness World Records. Still, it’s a pretty impressive feat.

As part of World Oceans Day celebrations, which occur every year on June 8, the RWS team took six days to put together the two structures to clinch the titles. For the ‘I love the ocean’ mural, 12,860 bottle caps were used to form the structure, which measures 7.7m by 3.6m, breaking the existing record (who knew there was already one?) of 7.2m by 2.3m set last year.

For the photo pledge wall, the aquarium collected about 1,270 images of visitors and RWS team members pledging their commitment to save the world’s oceans in their own small ways. Each picture comes with a message on how to protect the oceans, and the mosaic measures 8.3m by 3.9m. Kinda cheesy, but hey, that’s Singapore for you — always striving to be the best, first, largest or tallest in everything.

From now till June 26, activities for World Oceans Day festival will be going on at the aquarium. You can catch a glimpse of freediving record holders from Singapore and Malaysia swimming in the waters, or take a look at Asia’s first World Oceans Day in the photo gallery.
