An unidentified 31-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly hitting a police officer on duty with a metal bar.

The police said they were alerted to the incident near Jelapang Road at 11:12pm where the 26-year-old auxiliary police officer was injured while guiding traffic in the area.

While the alleged attack was not caught on camera, a video capturing what happened after showed the man screaming aggressively at a standoff between two police officers.

Despite the police’s several warnings to calm down, the man continued to walk toward them and got tasered. He falls on his back while officers scurry to get ahold of him.

“After several verbal warnings went unheeded and with the man advancing towards officers, one officer discharged a round of Taser in order to disarm the man and prevent injuries to other parties,” the police said.

The man, who was conscious when taken to the hospital, was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty, and suspected drug-related offenses.

The police officer who got assaulted was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
