If you thought the past few weeks were blazing, brace for even more incoming heat this record-breaking month.
For the rest of May, Singapore can expect warmer and drier weather that will go up to 36C, the National Environment Agency warned last night, in a month that has already set a new high.
“The second fortnight of May 2022 is forecast to be warm and drier compared to the first half of the month,” the weather people wrote.
Daily lows will range between 34C and 35C on most days, with humid nights reaching up to 28 on the mercury.
During what is called the Southwest Monsoon season, winds will blow across Singapore for what is considered one of the year’s driest periods. Residents of the southern and eastern coastal areas will feel the heat the most.
But short rain showers can be expected in a few locations in the mornings and afternoons. More specifically, thundery showers will pour for a day or two in the morning. Overall, there will be below- to near-average rainfall this month.
For the past two weeks, while it did rain most days, eight of the days reached at least 34C. The month’s high was 36.7C at Admiralty on Friday, which broke the previous record of 36.5C in 2010 and 2016.
